Hudson County Correctional Center is a regional partner operated by the Hudson County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Passaic County sends people there after brief processing in Wayne, usually female remands and sometimes males when operations call for it. Hudson then creates the records for its own confinement, property handling, discharge, or transfer. Passaic retains the Wayne intake and Passaic court records.
The end of Hudson custody can have several meanings. A community discharge may follow bond, a court order, time served, or another lawful release basis. Identify one episode with the full legal name, aliases, date of birth, SBI or booking number if known, approximate admission date, and Passaic case number. Ask for the existing final custody record, including admission time, physical out-of-custody time, release authority or type, destination, and final disposition. Ask for a booking photograph separately and tie it to the exact booking.
New Jersey OPRA governs requests for identifiable government records, subject to exemptions and redaction. No fixed Hudson release-record fee or response schedule was verified in the research. Hudson Releases to ICE Custody
An immigration handoff requires special care at Hudson. ICE describes a detainer as notice of intent to assume custody, a request for release information, and a request tied to holding the person for pickup. A detainer alone is not proof of current ICE custody. Hudson’s final record should be checked for the actual destination.
If Hudson reports an ICE transfer, search the Online Detainee Locator System. An A-number search also needs country of birth, while a name search uses exact first and last names, country of birth, and an optional date of birth. ICE says ODLS includes current detainees and those released from ICE custody within a limited 60-day period. It is not a permanent archive.
A Hudson “release” to ICE means Hudson custody ended, not that the person returned to the community. Confirm the next event with ICE. When the public locator is unclear or the short post-release period has passed, the ICE Detention Reporting and Information Line or an appropriate records request is the next channel. A negative result alone remains inconclusive.

Passaic’s published property policy says personal property accompanies a transferred person to Bergen or Hudson. Once Hudson receives the person, Hudson handles property requests connected with that confinement. This practical detail can help identify the correct custodian when a family is unsure whether the person remained in Wayne or reached the regional facility.
If property might have remained with Passaic, contact the current facility first. Passaic says Sheriff staff gives instructions after the request is verified and the confined person approves the release request. The policy does not publish a different post-release rule or promise a pickup schedule, so current agency instructions control.
Property handling is not proof of release. It can corroborate where custody moved, but a dated Hudson discharge or transfer record still supplies the physical endpoint. Keep property questions separate from the legal disposition and custody-status inquiry.
Passaic Hudson Release History
Hudson’s Passaic role comes from the county’s regional custody model. The Passaic budget presentation says shared-service consolidation began in 2021. The county linked that shift to the age of the old jail and an estimated replacement cost approaching one billion dollars. Overnight holding in Passaic ended in 2023, and Wayne became a processing and transport hub.
The result is a distributed record trail. Passaic can document intake, commitment, court movement, and the first transfer. Hudson’s usual role for female Passaic remands, with male placements also possible, is a local feature of that arrangement. It should not be turned into an absolute placement rule. Confirm the actual facility for the named person. The Bergen regional release route applies when the Sheriff instead identifies Bergen as the holding site.
Hudson Release Evidence Order
Use affirmative, dated records whenever possible. Hudson’s certified or final discharge record is strongest for the narrow fact that Hudson custody ended. An explicit historical Date Out-of-Custody in NJDOC is strong for a later state episode. A VINE event can corroborate a change after the responsible agency confirms it. A court order is vital legal context, but its execution still needs a physical custody record.
Weak evidence includes a missing current-custody row, a social post, or a news date. Those facts can prompt the next search but cannot show the release type, exact time, or destination. In Passaic County’s transfer-based system, a missing row is especially ambiguous.
Follow the record until the destination is known. Stop calling the event a community release if the evidence points to NJDOC, another county, federal custody, or ICE. If the record only proves that Hudson custody ended, state that limited fact.
