Passaic County VINELink Coverage
New Jersey VINE through VINELink is a custody-information and notification service for crime victims and other concerned people. Participating county correctional agencies and New Jersey’s correctional system supply release and transfer events. In Passaic County, that coverage must be understood through the county’s unusual custody map.
The Passaic County Sheriff Corrections Division operates a short-term processing site in Wayne but no overnight jail. Passaic remands usually move to Bergen County for male confinement and Hudson County for female confinement, with some male placements at Hudson as operations require. VINE may therefore receive the event from Bergen or Hudson rather than from an overnight Passaic roster. A person sentenced to state prison belongs in the NJDOC channel.
Federal prisoners are outside this service’s coverage. The BOP Inmate Locator is the federal route. ICE custody also has its own locator. A VINE result should always be read as an event reported by its source agency, not as a universal search across every local, state, federal, and immigration system.
Coverage rule: Select New Jersey, then identify the actual holding agency. A Passaic case does not guarantee a Passaic source label.
Search One Passaic Inmate
A specific-person search works best with more than a name. Similar names, spelling differences, aliases, and separate bookings can lead to the wrong record. Use an offender or booking identifier when the live interface provides that field, then compare every public identifier before relying on the match.

- Choose the offender or custody search shown in the live interface.
- Enter the person’s name and a known offender or booking identifier when available.
- Review possible matches and compare the identifiers before opening a record.
- Read the reported custody status, agency or facility, and status-event information.
- If the person appears no longer confined, contact the former facility and compare the court case before describing the event as release.
If no result appears, do not treat that absence as proof of release. The person may be at the brief Wayne processing stage, transferred outside a participating feed, entered under a different name, in another sovereign’s custody, or subject to a public-access limit. Passaic VINELink Release Fields
VINELink screen labels can change, so report only what the matched record displays. The central fields describe reported custody, the reporting source, and an event. They do not replace the detailed final release record held by Passaic, Bergen, Hudson, or NJDOC.

A transfer is especially important in Passaic County. Leaving Wayne for Bergen or Hudson is continued custody. Leaving a partner jail for NJDOC is also continued custody. An ICE pickup can end county custody without community release. The former facility’s final record should show the release authority or transfer destination when that information exists.
Register Passaic Release Notifications
Registration begins on a matched VINELink record. New Jersey VINE supports phone, text, app, email, and TTY routes described by the state’s official materials. Each desired method requires a separate registration. A person who wants both a text and an email must complete both choices rather than assume one entry activates all channels.
- Open the correct matched record and select its notification-registration action.
- Choose one available method, such as phone, text, app, email, or TTY.
- Enter and confirm the destination requested for that method.
- Complete the prompts and repeat registration for each additional method wanted.
- For telephone notice, create a memorable four-digit PIN.
- Use the PIN to acknowledge an automated custody-change call when prompted.
The PIN acknowledges the call. It is not access to a confidential corrections file. The offender is not told who registered. New Jersey’s brochure also says older automated telephone operations could call at any hour, leave a message, and repeat until acknowledgment or the stated retry period ended. Treat those details as brochure-era unless the current interface confirms them.

The screen is the starting point for a named search. The matched agency record, not the landing screen, supplies the event that must be confirmed.
Passaic VINE Phone and TTY
New Jersey VINE adds access channels beyond the web interface. The toll-free custody-information and notification line is 1-877-846-3465, also written as 1-877-VINE-4-NJ. The TTY number is 1-866-847-1298. VINELink also has web and mobile-app routes. These options serve the same notification purpose but require separate registration for each chosen method.
The official brochure draws a special line around juvenile information. Public juvenile information is not available through the VINE phone line. A registered victim of a juvenile offender may receive automated release calls through agency registration. That limit is one concrete reason a public “not found” response cannot prove that no custody event exists.
VINE advises users not to rely on it as the sole protective measure. Anyone with a safety concern should use the relevant law-enforcement or victim-services channel in addition to an automated alert. The notification service reports custody data; it does not provide emergency response.
Note: Register every desired delivery method separately and keep the telephone PIN available to acknowledge a custody-change call.
Read a Passaic Release Alert
A notification tells the registrant that the source agency reported a custody event. First read the event wording exactly. Next, note the facility and the time associated with the message. A release label may describe the end of that agency’s control, while a transfer label points to continued custody. If the alert lacks the legal reason or destination, the former facility’s record is the next source.
Alert receipt time is not always the same as release time. The agency creates or updates its custody event, the data enters VINE, and the service sends notice through the registered channel. Each step can take time. Do not turn the time a phone, text, or email arrived into an unsupported physical release timestamp.
When the event concerns Wayne, ask whether the person was discharged after court or sent to Bergen or Hudson. When Bergen or Hudson appears, ask that county for the final physical discharge or transfer record. For NJDOC, compare the alert with Date Out-of-Custody and the correct incarceration-history episode. A state parole eligibility date is not the same event as leaving custody.
If safety is the reason for registration, VINE’s own materials say not to depend on the automated service alone. Use the relevant public-safety or victim-services contact as well. VINE supplies notice and custody information, but it is not an emergency service and cannot guarantee the timing of a source agency’s update.
Confirm Passaic County VINE Events
A reported event has to be reconciled with Passaic County’s custody chain. If the person was discharged after same-day court in Wayne, request Passaic’s dated processing or discharge entry and compare the Passaic court disposition. If the Wayne record says Bergen or Hudson, continue with that partner. The transfer itself was not a release.
For a physical discharge from Bergen or Hudson, that county created the final custody record. Passaic may hold the original commitment and transfer, while the partner agency holds the actual out-of-custody time. A focused request should identify the person, booking or SBI number if known, booking date, and Passaic case, then ask for the final release or transfer date, authority, and destination.
The Passaic County OPRA portal is suitable for Passaic-created Wayne and transfer records. Use the Bergen or Hudson custodian for records created during partner confinement. For a state commitment, use NJDOC’s Date Out-of-Custody and incarceration history. Court disposition explains why custody changed, while the holding agency records when its custody ended.
Important: VINE can report a custody change before every related public record is updated. Confirm the event and destination with the reporting agency.
Passaic Release Channels Beyond VINELink
Use the system that matches the custody class. A Passaic remand at Bergen or Hudson needs the partner jail’s current channel and final record. A sentenced state prisoner needs the NJDOC offender search. Date Out-of-Custody is the actual state-custody field. Current Max Release Date is a changing projection, while Current Parole Eligibility Date is an eligibility calculation rather than a release promise.
The BOP Inmate Locator covers many federal prisoners released after 1982 and can show a past release date or a `RELEASED` location label. VINELink does not replace it. ICE’s Online Detainee Locator is principally a current-custody tool and includes a short period after ICE release. A county handoff to ICE begins a new custody check.
New Jersey’s public sex-offender registry is limited to qualifying registrants under its publication rules. It is not a released-inmate list and cannot fill a missing VINE result. The same is true of a court docket: it can show the legal disposition but not always the hour a person crossed the facility door.
The sound evidence order is an affirmative dated agency record, an explicit historical locator date, a VINE event corroborated by the agency, and then a court order whose execution is independently confirmed. Mere absence from a current search is weakest.
Note: Match the system to the custodian before treating a missing name, status label, or automated alert as release evidence.
